Getting Up Close with My Quilting - Special Area Quilting

Special Area Quilting adds texture to this Baby Turtle Quilt.

I selected 4 thread colors.

Wiggle Line Quilting for the turtle's shell. I followed the edges of the squares and the design of the shell.

Swirly Quilting for the legs and head of the turtle.

Rock Quilting in the light colored background. The rocks were about quarter and fifty cent piece sizes - some were smaller.

Loops for the borders with double loops in the skinny border with two colors of thread.

I took photos at angle, so you can see the special areas of quilting better.

My customer hired me to do the binding too. I stitched it with an all machine embroidery binding.

Quilted in Debbie's name and a heart and 2014 in the border. Sometimes I quilt the baby's name and birth date, but the baby wasn't born yet. It is for a baby to be!

I flipped it to the backside.

Debbie selected Minkee fabric for the backing.

A full view of the back of the quilt.

This quilt was made by Debbie for a new baby to be. Debbie sent me a card to include with the baby quilt and I wrapped it up and used the scraps from the binding to make a ribbon and mailed it directly to the new parents to be.

My customer (Debbie) shared the information about the pattern with me, so I could share it with you. The name of the quilt pattern is Pokey Patch.  It was featured in the magazine Quiltmaker - September /October 2011.

Enjoy!
