NEW Crafty Sewing Etsy Shop

Update --Available at www.craftysewing.com.
No longer in Esty shop --- other items in shop.

Just click on the title of the blog and it will take you directly to my shop or http://www.etsy.com/shop/CraftySewing

I will be adding new crafty creations all the time. Listed my Mini Comfort Quilts first and the NEW Crazee Patch (ONE OF A KIND) Mini Comfort Quilts.

All items will be one of a kind -- NO duplicates!

The Story.......The Mini Comfort Quilts are special to me, so they had to be first.....

A quilting friend of mine showed me how to make them several years ago and I have been making them ever since... Made hundreds of them -- never two alike -- some similar, but not identical. I get orders from churches and from individuals who just want to share the love with a friend who needs comforting.

I send them to my friends in need with get well cards and with sympathy cards. When my mother in law died I gave one to my father in law. I found out later when he died he had kept it on his dresser with the little printed message that I had pinned to it. Maybe it was comforting to know I was thinking of him and saying a prayer for him. We can't take away their pain, but maybe we can let them know we care...

When I am not Quilting... I am Sewing... and I am Weaving!

Sometimes I make other sewing projects other than quilts!!! During the past two weeks my mom and I made 16 woven baskets!!! They are called Biscuit Baskets. First we were at a quilting retreat and worked on them for 3 solid days. Then we came home and I quilted for my business in the mornings and we worked on the baskets together in the afternoons and evenings up til the Eve of Thanksgiving. It was a fun project to do together! I cut the strips and stitched them. Mom turned them right side out and fed the heavy stiff interfacing into each strip. Then I pressed each strip and started the weaving process -- which this is where I added my own step of Zig Zag stitching the base of the basket before weaving the sides of the baskets. I did a lot of pinning to hold the fabric strips as a wove the strips and then stitched on the binding. I again used a Zig Zag stitch to finish the edge of the binding (an all machine stitched binding).

Biscuit Basket is the name of the pattern. See the picture with the information. I made a few changes as I made the baskets. I stitched the bottom of each basket with a Zig Zag stitch to hold the strips in place before weaving. I also used a 3 inch strip for the binding. The changes made the binding and weaving process easier. This is a link to all the pictures of the baskets.

Quilts that look like pictures or photos.........

.. I use the quilting machine to thread paint on the fabric pieces with all different colors of threads ...... creates a texture like painting ..... a type of thread painting... really gives the quilt a three dimensional look.... Not necessarily real..... because it's not -- it's a quilted wall hanging! See more pictures of this type of thread painting in the photo gallery.

Three Easy to Sew Quilts -- All from different lines of fabrics....

Quilts will be on display at LouAnn's Quilt Garden in Oelwein, Iowa later today, October 4, 2010.

.... Just choose a line of fabric and stitch it up!!! Using The Easy to Sew Pattern... it will guide you thru' how to choose the fabric and how to sew this easy quilt! Sewing made fun again!

Linda Kowalski made the brown and yellow quilt and I quilted it with vertical wavy lines. Deb Czech made the pink and green quilt. I chose to quilt it with overall swirls. I made the blue and yellow quilt and quilted it with a two color ribbon quilting and double daisies. All using the same Easy to Sew Quilt pattern, with different lines of fabrics .... The pattern makes it so simple!! ..... Choose a focus fabric for the center sections of the block and then add a light, medium and two dark fabrics.... choose some with a little texture. The possibilities are endless!! Add a wider border on the outside or add two or three borders to make the quilt larger. Choosing a whole line of fabric makes it easy!

See several photos of the Easy to Sew Quilts at the Photo Gallery at www.craftysewing.com Lots of close ups too!

Lunch Looks Like a QUILT to Me!

Everything looks like a quilt to me... I love the colors of the sunshine tomatoes with the rosy strawberries (both from my container garden!) The little carrots in the center blend the strawberries and the tomatoes together! I should have cut open the egg and had the bright yellow yolk in the picture too! Thought of that when I was eating, but it took so long to display my meal, I had to just eat. (I only get a half hour for lunch -- you know I have a really tough boss.) I added the triple curly parsley from my container garden to accent the avocado slices, creamy pasta salad, and the bright white egg. All set on a pretty little plate from the local resale shop. My blue quilted table topper makes a gentle, cool background!

Beans and Potatoes!!! YES ---- I do COOK!!

COOK at your own risk!!!! Ha Ha 1. Steam or boil fresh green beans. 2. Wash and slice "New" Potatoes -- leave the skin on!!! Pan fry the potatoes in butter or whatever you would like. Season with a little salt and pepper or your favorite seasoning. In the second picture I used canned diced potatoes -- Open can, rinse in cool water and drain water and pan fry them. 3. When both the potatoes and green beans are cooked --- drain the green beans and add them to the fry pan and toss with the potatoes. YES !!! They are ready to eat!
One night I didn't have any potatoes, so I pan fried Zucchini and a little onion and served it with fresh corn on the cob. Of course add a few flowers for color!!! Oh and don't forget to drink lots of WATER!!!
