on two Dresden Plate Quilts
When flipped over to the back side of the quilt you can really see the stitching, when a light solid backing fabric is used. On the front of the quilt there is a dark brown border that needed a dark thread for the quilting, so on the back side against the cream fabric it really stands out very nicely.
When I quilted these two quilts, I quilted them side by side on my quilting machine, because they were for two sisters and my customer wanted them quilted the same. This worked out perfectly for me.
Here's a few up close photos of the front and back of the quilt.
My customer created these two quilts using vintage clothing items from the mother of the two sisters. That's why there had to be two matching quilts. What a wonderful way to display favorite clothing pieces in a quilt. Makes a beautiful memory quilt.
Vintage and older fabrics are sometimes hard to work with. Sometimes they stretch and pull and pucker up. Tonya did a beautiful job constructing these two quilts. I chose to quilt the dresden plates with a swirly gig in each section. Then I stitched a wiggle line spiral in all the centers.
I stitched a wavy double ribbon with lazy daisy flowers in the dark brown border.
I used a dark thread on the dark fabrics and a light thread on the lighter sections. And meandering with little lazy daisy flowers in the background areas.
Up close of one of the center spirals on the back side of the quilt.
Tonya created these two beautiful quilts for a customer. She will be posting about it soon at Hillbilly Handiworks.
Enjoy your day!

These are so beautiful! Your frame must be huge to have them both on at the same time! As always I love seeing your quilting and I have a couple Dresden blocks that I now know how to quilt! Thanks for linking!
