Hodgepodge Patchwork Tuesday - "Leafing Out"

The last Project Quilting Challenge I created an all green table runner.  I named it "Leafing Out", partially because it was green and partially because you start with strips. Then you stitch them together and cut them. Then stitch again and the fabric spreads out throughout the quilt top.

At the quilt retreat last weekend, I asked three of my friends to bring five or six or more fabrics to make the table runner.  I wanted to take photos and see the table runner made in different colors.

Deb started with some leftover scraps from a quilt and will make her quilt top into a quilted pillow sham.

Linda brought six fat quarters.  She said she will make hers into a table topper.

Candy started with fat quarters too and she made hers into a long table runner.

Deb's finished quilt top.

Candy's finished quilt top.

Candy's, Deb's, and Linda's and mine are on the bottom.

Here is the link to "Leafing Out" if you would like to make one too! Fun and easy and a great way to use up scraps!

Enjoy!

Leafing Out!

I chose to name my challenge quilt for Project Quilting --- "Leafing Out".

I decided to challenge myself by leafing out and using the color green.  I shared the construction of the quilt top - here

I quilted my table runner with small meandering with leaves and swirls.

I call it "Meandering with a Twist".  It is my most favorite quilting.  It looks traditional, yet has a modern twist with the addition of the leaves.

I placed a few green things on my new green table runner.

I do not have many green dishes.

I bound the quilt with a black fabric an all machine stitched embroidery binding.

Full view.

I placed it side by side with the cream table runner I made a couple weeks ago that I promised I would share about it.  It was constructed the same way. Click here for the construction.

I can't wait to use my BLUE fabrics to make this quilt pattern.

Of course, I stitched my name and the year in the corner.

I am pleased to have finished my challenge quilt before Sunday at noon.

I will upload my photos to the Flicker site for Project Quilting.

Later, this week over at Persimons Dreams there will be voting for your favorite quilts.  Please hop over and check them out and place a vote.

Enjoy your weekend!
Take time to sew and quilt and play!

Greens? Not Blue!

This week's challenge was to be inspired by Annie Young and her beautiful art work.  It is very obvious that she loves what she does.

My creation for this week needs to be something I love:

I love to make free form quilts.

I love to work with blue fabrics, but I decided to work with a color that challenges me - greens.  I do not like the color green and I have a hard time matching greens.

I chose six green fabrics.

I cut the fabric into strips of various widths from 2 inches to 5 inches.

I trimmed them to the same lengths.

Stitch them all together and ironed/pressed.

Trimmed the edges.

Rotary cut into 5 strips of various widths again.

Flipped them around.

and stagger them and then stitched them back together.

Ironed/pressed again.

Chose a quilting thread that looks good on the quilt top and on the backing fabric (tea dye muslin).

It is ready to quilt.

I was going to do thread painting, but I changed my mind.
I decided to quilt it with my favorite quilting.  I'll share that tomorrow.

Hop over and check out Challenge 3 and the beautiful Artwork of Annie YoungYou will be inspired too!

Enjoy your day!
