Pets on Quilts 2014!
Category #1 Dog on Quilt
You still have time to share a post featuring your pet on a quilt or your quilt that features a pet. See all of the information at Lily Pad Quilting.
I did not even have to set up this "photo shoot". I came out of the shower and Toby had hopped up on my bed. It is perfect for the Pets on Quilts Show!
I made this quilt top in 2002 and it was one of the first quilts I quilted on my long arm machine in 2003. I made it for my in laws, but we have it on our bed, as they have both passed away. I love all the blue prints, but I do not like the quilting. I left too many "un quilted" spaces. I do not like the way the fabric just hangs there. I keep it on my bed as it was one of the first quilts I personally quilted for family.
I only quilted a few quilts, (way back in the beginning) loosely quilted, like this one. I was just learning how to quilt!
I like the heart as it is filled with the free style loops and lazy daisies, but there should have been some background quilting like a meandering around the heart. Remember, I was new to long arm quilting back in 2003.
When quilts have blank spaces the fabric hangs and gaps up. I learned fast after I quilted this quilt. I would never leave blank spaces when quilting again.
Sometimes, I think I should roll this quilt on my quilting machine and fill in the spaces, but then I remind myself that it is good to look back and see where I started and how far I have come in 11 years! WOW!

I wrapped up Toby in the quilt for a cuddled up photo. I love that the morning sun was streaming in the window on our sweet little Toby.

I Wrapped Up in My Favorite Quilt...
Gabby
... and Toby
for a photo shoot for the Pets on Quilts Show.
I made this raggie denim shirt quilt 10 years ago when I first started long arm quilting. Many of you have seen it, because I have shared it here.
I cut up denim shirts, plaid cotton shirts, flannel scraps, and denim dresses to create this quilt.
I backed my quilt with flannel fabric and used a poly batting to make it a little lighter than if I had used a cotton batting.
I was just learning to free style quilt. I chose a variegated thread with blends of blues. I really had fun practicing loops and whimsical flowers.
In the beginning, I had a hard time hitting the center points of the flowers, thus resulting in the uneven flowers that still look great today - 10 years later.
I did not snip this quilt to fray. I let it fray naturally.
It is my favorite quilt of all the quilts I have ever made. It is soft and warm, yet light weight, because of the poly batting and use of the denim shirts.
In the winter, I cuddle up as I am blogging. Sometimes I share it with Gabby and Toby. They love it too!

I also enjoy my new grand baby and I will be sharing some baby photos soon. Remember, I made four quilts for him and tons of baby burp cloths. I took photos of them being put to good use. We had a wonderful trip to the Netherlands and I am finally recovering from the jet lag! I spent a lot of time in the rocking chair just holding the baby.

Pets on Quilts!
Entry - Dogs on Quilts
I upcycled a pair of patchwork shorts, denim dresses, and denim shirts into a a cozy warm quilt. I even used a washable wool batting to make it extra warm for our Wisconsin winters.

I am a long arm quilter and I work at home. I keep the heat on low and my little sweethearts love to cuddle up in this quilt during the day, while I am working.
I made this up cycled quilt for us, but Gabby and Toby think I made it for them!
All cuddled up!
