Sunday Scraps --- More Crocheted Circular Mats

I sold the one on the left and I am making the one on the right larger.  It will be listed for sale too.

At this point, it measures about 17 1/2 inches.

This is the one I sold. It measured 14 inches across.

I shipped it out on Friday.

I cut or tear the strips. It doesn't matter. The smaller mat, the strips were about 3/4 inch wide. The larger mat, the strips were almost an inch wide.

I tie a square knot to hold the strips together.

Sharing a photo of the completed larger mat - 19 inches.

Here is an up close photo of the crocheting.

Love the corning ware on the mat!

This morning I baked a Banana Bundt Cake and placed it on my new quilt plate and the mat.

I still love the snow photos the best. I will have to take a photo of the larger one tomorrow.

Enjoy!

My Imaginary Snow Day and Sunday Scraps

What do you do on a Snow Day?

I work at home, so I never get a Snow Day.
Sometimes I pretend it is a Snow Day and I bake Mini Banana Muffins in the morning and then I go to work.

Since it snowed, I took photos in the snow!

It is a perfect morning snack for me. Cheese, apples, and mini muffins.

I made Banana Strawberry Chocolate Chip  Muffins. I found the recipe at Food.com.  I substituted strawberry yogurt.

I made a few mini muffins and the rest went into a loaf pan. That way, I could get done faster and get back to work.

I made the round crocheted place mat from cotton scrap strips.
I tore 3/4" strips of fabric. I tied the strips together with a knot.
Using a size K metal crochet hook, I started with a circle of single crochets in the center.

I worked my way around increasing a single crochet every so often. That way it will not curl up.

I made the crocheted place mat on Sunday for "Sunday Scraps" and the muffins on Monday for my "Imaginary Snow Day" --- Well it did snow!

Enjoy!

I Am Celebrating More of My Quilting in a Published Book!

If you have been following me since 2009, you will remember the Don't Fence Me In Quilt. I quilted it for Linda Halpin. www.lindahalpin.com

She created this quilt as a "Bonus Quilt" made from cutaways from another quilt.

I quilted it with vines, leaves and swirls. On the fence, I quilted a wiggle line and a little leaf with a swirl.

I quilted wiggle lines in the borders following the stripes.

Quiltmaker Magazine published her quilt patterns in the May/June issue in 2009.

This was the cover of the magazine.

Recently, Quiltmaker Magazine published Linda's quilt patterns in a book titled "Devoted to Scraps".

Congratulations Linda!  It's a beautiful quilt.

Here's a peek inside the book.

I am so pleased to have my quilting and my name in a published quilting book.

Thanks again Linda for choosing me to quilt your quilt.

Love the title of the quilt book!

Linda and I, both sell photo note cards with the photo of the Don't Fence Me In Quilt. Split Rail Fence Photo Note Cards

Getting Up Close to My Quilting - Two Color Ribbon Quilting

I quilted this quilt with large two color Ribbon Quilting with a five petal whimsical flower in the center of the blocks.

The whimsical flowers have swirls in each petal.

The two thread colors are brown and a medium blue.

Many of my customers have me quilt their name and the year in the corner of their quilt.

Debbie selected a washable wool batting.  It gives the quilt a little bit of loft.

My Getting Up Close to My Quilting Posts are for sharing my quilting --- Up Close.  Sometimes I have quilt pattern information and sometimes I don't.   This time I do. Debbie called the quilt "Lady of the Lake" and it is Jason Yenter Fabrics.  I Googled it and found the quilt pattern in the book named Quilts of Camelot.

 Enjoy!

Charming Baby Toys - Free Pattern

These colorful stuffed toys were made from 5 inch charm squares.

You need 2 charm squares of each color.

Place them pretty sides together.

Stitch 1/4 inch seam allowance all the way around leaving an opening of about 2 inches.  Stitch twice.

Clip the corners off, close to the stitching on each corner.

Turn right side out.

Poke each corner out from the inside.

Stuff with whatever you think is best for your baby toys.  I selected poly batting that I cut up into little squares.

Hand or machine stitch the opening closed. I hand stitched them closed.

The finished square toy measures about 4 1/2".

I lined them up like a color wheel with the primary colors in the center - Red, Yellow and Blue. Then I placed the secondary colors around them - Orange, Purple, and Green.

Lined them up in rows.

Then in a pile! I had fun playing with them.  I hope my grandson loves them too.

I also cut out some toys from some novelty fabrics I had. I stitched them the same way.  But no corners - all rounded edges.

I love the blue butterfly. That represents me - Grandmama.

I decided I needed a fish to represent Grandpapa, because he loves to fish.

and I needed a cow and pig for Wisconsin's farms.

Then I threw them all together in one pile.

I have to say, I had fun making them too!

Grab your fabrics and make some "Charming Baby Toys"!

You can purchase a PDF Downloadable Pattern in my Online Store for only $1.00. "Charming Baby Soft Toys" You can save it on your computer or print it out.

Enjoy!
