Sunday Scraps --- Leftovers from My Quilt Blocks

I have made some extra blocks for the Quilt Along from my fabrics scraps.

When I constructed the Broken Square Block,  I accidentally cut too many pieces and ended up sewing extra flying geese.  I moved them around and came up with this.

I created a 8 1/2 inch quilt block.

That won't fit with the 6 1/2 inch and the 12 1/2 inch blocks.  I will add borders to make it a 12 1/2 inch block.

Cool!  I used up the scraps and I will add it to the quilt.

There were a few more pieces.  I created another block that needs borders too.

If I don't use the extra blocks in the quilt top, I can create a table runner or table topper.  They are all my favorite colors.

Remember the Extra Quilt Blocks I created.

I used the extra 2 inch pieces from the Churn Dash Blocks.

And recently, I found this block at a resale shop. It was a quilt I made years ago.  Planning to add that one in too.

I am sure I will make a few more blocks to add to my quilt in the next week using more of the little fabric scraps that are leftover.

Enjoy your day!

Hodgepodge Patchwork Tuesday - Blooms and a Broken Square

I found some Minutes for me to complete a few more quilt blocks.

All the quilt blocks for the My Favorite Block Quilt Along are offered in 6 1/2 inch and 12 1/2 inch blocks. Sometimes I make more than one.  The Bloom Block was a raw edge applique block.  Click here for the instructions.

I selected two yellow fabrics for the petals for one of the blooms.

When I was positioning the petals, before ironing them onto the fabric, I found the point of my scissors worked better than my fingers.

The dark blue petals worked nicely with the yellow center.

Next, I selected a medium blue fabric. This one doesn't contrast very well with the background fabric, but that is OK.

I love all three of them.

They will look great scattered around throughout the quilt.

Or I could place them all in a row.

Next I made a 12 1/2 inch block.

Cool!  4 more blocks completed.

I got out the pizza box of blocks and placed a few on the table to see how they looked with the other blocks.

I love them all.

One more block to go! The Broken Square Block. That was the last block from the My Favorite Block Quilt Along.  Kim shared the Broken Square Block on Thursday - April 25th. Click here for the instructions.

I selected one of my favorite fabrics for the center.

I selected the same light color as some of the bloom blocks as it was new to the quilt and that way it would be repeated again.

One of my reasons for doing this quilt along was to create quilt blocks and learn new construction methods or practice old methods.  I like the way they made the flying geese pieces for this quilt.

You can get printable instructions for each block.

This was another fun quilt block to make!

I can see this quilt block as a table topper! Looks great in the center of my table. I would add two or three borders.

I placed the two last blocks side by side.

I placed a few blocks on the table and scattered them around.

Kim from Persimon Dreams is sharing ideas for lattice, borders, and ideas for putting the blocks all together.

Hodgepodge Patchwork on Wednesday --- More Quilt Blocks

Last week at the Quilt Retreat I completed more quilt blocks for the My Favorite Block Quilt Along

You may see some that are not in the Quilt Along, as I am adding some of my favorite blocks and I am making some changes too!

I started with the Stripper Block. Click Here for the instructions.

I started with the 6 1/2" quilt block.

This was a fun block to make!

I added it to the wall of quilt blocks.

Then I made the 12 1/2" Block.

I liked doing the larger block, because I could add more fabric strips.

I added it to the wall.  Cool!  I love all the blues!

Next I made the Yankee Puzzle Block. Click here for the instructions.

I put together two 6 1/2" blocks.

I added them to the wall.

But I must have measured or cut something wrong as mine measured 7 inch and I can't trim or I will loose the points.

I decided to add two borders to make them 12 1/2" blocks.

I added them to the wall and I really LOVE them.  The borders look great around the blocks.

See the quilt block on the bottom left in the photo. It is not one of the quilt blocks for the Quilt Along.  While I was at the Quilt Retreat, I visited a resale shop that had quilt patterns and sewing notions. In 1998, I made a blue star quilt using the pre cut blocks from JoAnn's Fabrics.  Do you remember the pre cut kits?

I bought 4 block kits for only $2.00 each.  When I opened up this package up, it was already completed!  I added it to my wall of blocks.  I love it!

My wall of blocks is looking great!  I still have more to make.  I missed a couple from 3 weeks ago and I need to do this week's blocks for the My Favorite Block Quilt Along.

I can't wait to create at the end of my work day!

Did you see Tuesday's block?

My quilt block is going to be so cool with the blue fabrics!

I have not forgot about the May for Me Celebration.
I will share about it tomorrow!
Don't miss the Giveaways!  There will be one every week!

Enjoy your day!
