Thread Painting on Batik Fabrics

I shared Thread Painting on Batiks for my second Periscope Video (Nov. 5th) Click here for the Replay of the videos.  

My Orange Quilt is from 2008. I am sharing Quilts from My Past in November. The photos of the quilts above were made and quilted in 2008 with the exception of the Pinwheel Quilt.  It was created for 2015 for the Focus Through the Prism Series for Project Quilting.  In the sidebar of my blog, there is a link to the post about how I created and thread painted the Pinwheel Quilt. Click here for the link to that post. I shared a photo, each time I changed colors. 

When I created my periscope video, I explained how I thread painted on the quilts. I shared the original fabric.

The larger quilt and the magazine bag were just quilted fabric and the Pinwheel Quilt was pieced. I cut the batik fabric into squares and mixed them up and pieced it back together.  It scattered the flowers and then they overlapped. 

To make it easier to show the quilts during the video, I layered them on my cutting table and shared each one and then moved it over to the side.

I zoomed in on the thread painted flowers, so you can see a few up close photos.

It took me about 3 months to complete the Thread Painting on the large quilted quilt.  I only quilted during my free time --- after work, at the end of my quilting day.  I quilt customer's quilts during the day, Monday through Friday.  I quilt my quilts in the evenings and on Saturdays.

Quilts from the Past --- My Past Quilts - Pineapple Quilt

On Periscope yesterday, I created my first video scope.  I shared my Blue and White Pineapple Quilt.  I made it and quilted it in 2005.

It measures 81" by 108".  I have it hanging on the wall in my quilt studio and it greets me every morning. 

Because it is so long, I had to baste stitch the right side under so that I could hang it on the quilt rack.  That way it stays flat on that side.

I used almost every blue that I owned plus some of my quilting friends shared their blue fabrics with me.

I am sharing some up close photos of this quilt, but keep in mind that I quilted it a long time ago.  My meandering looks a little wonky, but I was in my first couple years of quilting and there is a big learning curve to mastering longarm quilting.  

I quilted my quilt with an overall medium Meandering with a Twist. The Twists are the little hearts.

My pineapple quilt was made using the Pineapple Quilt - A Piece of Cake pattern book by Loretta Smith from the Quilts in a Day Publications.

Every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon in November I will be sharing a short periscope video and inviting you into my quilt studio to share a quilt or two that I have made.  I will also share photos here of the quilts I share.

Celebrating Quilts From the Past in November

I will be sharing quilts from the past --- my past, in November, here and on instagram and periscope and on facebook. See all my links in the sidebar.

I made this Prairie Star Quilt back in 2006 at a quilt retreat - Quilts by Barb's Retreat.  Barb's sister, Diane Lapacek designed the quilt. 

I made the Prairie Star Quilt for my Mom. We unfolded it as it had been on the shelf for the summer and put it out on her bed. 

While I was visiting my Mom this past weekend, I took several photos of it and other quilts in her home. Where does time go?  Seems like I just made it!

It was a fun quilt to make and I have just ordered the quilt pattern from Diane to have in my Quilt Studio for my customers and I should have it available by mid November.

Please don't look too closely at my quilting as I quilted it way back in 2006 when it was my first years of longarm quilting.  

I love the way it has aged and is all crumpled and cuddly! 

I really had fun with the lazy daisy quilting and the swirls and wiggle lines back then too.

These are the 3 wall hangings that she has above her bed.  I will share about the Tulip Quilt later in November.

These were 2 little wall hangings that I made from a paper pieced pattern back in 2005 or 2006.

All of November, I will be sharing quilts from my past in a celebration of my birthday month. Tentatively, on my birthday (November 24th) I will will be "re sharing" my first quilt. I made it in 1981. I will be taking new and better photos this month.  I made a beautiful blue and yellow "Quilt as You Go Log Cabin Quilt".
