A Time Keeper for Me!

....And a bonus phone purse! I will share how I made the phone purse soon. It's fun and easy!

Through Project Quilting I won a Quilter's Planner and a Mini Planner!  Thanks so much Stephanie from Quilter's Planner!

I received it in February, so I got a late start, but it didn't matter, as I was able to start right in and get super organized!  I used to have a pile of notes on my desk and when I needed something I would dig through the papers to find something. As of mid February, I write everything in the planner. I am using the January pages for for extra notes and taping them onto the pages. I LOVE it!  I will definitely purchase one for 2019, as after using it for less than a month, I can see it is going to be absolutely perfect for me!

When the Project Quilting Challenge - Stitch in Time was announced I knew exactly what I needed to make - A quilted holder for my Quilter's Planner. I saw the free pattern for the cover on their website, but I decided I need more than that. I wanted it to hold everything! I can take it with me downstairs to my quilting studio and bring it back upstairs at the end of the day. It needed to have a spot for markers, note pads, and post it notes to be all in one place.

I create in Boscobel, Wisconsin. I named my quilted holder -- A Time Keeper for Me! I LOVE it!

Here's the fabrics I selected for this challenge. 
The lite blue hand dyed fabric is from Quilts by Barb. The dark blue is a printed fabric that a friend gave me. It was actually a few extra strips from a quilt she made last year.  I doubled up on this challenge to make it for Project Quilting Challenge and for Quilt By Barb's - The Yard that Keeps on Giving Challenge.

I used my Denim Quilt Block Pattern to create my quilt.

I made my lattice strips skinny!

The yellow pins are where I wanted to quilt in my name and the year. I had to figure out where the front of the quilted holder would be so I stitched it in the right spot.

I did not use exact measurements and this is not really a tutorial, but I shared all the photos of the steps here.

I folded the fabric around the Quilter's Planner to figure out where to cut and stitch.

I cut and folded and stitched binding onto the fabric.

I will probably add a strap for carrying it like a bag, but I need to use it for awhile, before I can figure out where or if I want a strap on it.

I will share the how I made the phone purse in a couple days. It's fun and easy!

Hodgepodge Patchwork Tuesday - Pocket Purses, Calender Purses, Totebags, and Measurements

This yellow, black and white quilted tote bag started with a quilted piece of fabric that was about 24" X 34" .  I cut the body 19" by 24" and I cut two straps 4" X 24" and I cut an inside pocket 6" X 19". It measures about 16" across by 9" deep with a width of about 3-4".

This is the pocket purse I made with the blue green bag.  Measurements of the quilted piece before folding and sewing is about 8" X 11". Patterns are available for purchase for the pocket purses.

Calendar Purse or Checkbook Purse was made along with the blue green tote bag.  A pattern is also available.

I started with a quilted piece that was 25" X 35".  I cut the body of the purse 17" X 28" with 2 straps 4" X 25" and inside pockets.

Here is another quilted tote bag I made from a quilted piece of fabric that measured about 24" X 48".  I cut the body of the tote bag 24" X 40" and 2 straps 4" X 24".  I cut a small inside pocket from another  multicolored quilted piece.  The finished bag measures about 21" across by 18" deep.

 

I hope these photos and information inspires you to make your own quilted tote bag or purse.  This would be a great project for you to do for May for Me!

Hodgepodge Patchwork Tuesday - Is it a Quilt or a Purse?

Remember this quilt? 

Well I had lots of scraps leftover and I made two little table toppers OR  two square baby quilts  OR  Two quilted squares!  Well what was I going to do with them?  On one quilt I had placed the squares at an angle.  I quilted one with meandering and swirly leaves and the other one I quilted with ribbon quilting.  They were pretty, but not very useful.

It was about 39" by 39".
It covered the top of a card table!


Wasn't very useful to me...


So I cut them up and turned them into purses....

This purse has a velcro closure and the other one is just an open purse. One is mine and I sold the other one. I love my quilted purse, but I did not love my quilted square. 


Have you ever made a small quilt that just didn't have a use?  You can cut it up and make it into a quilted purse or bag!

I am working on another quilted purse made from a small quilt.  Anyone recognize the fabric?  It was from the 2010 Hoffman Challenge.  Nope!  I never entered it in the challenge. I hope to finish the quilted purse this weekend! If I finish it, I will post it next week on Hodgepodge Patchwork Tuesday.
