A Christmas Tree Quilt for My Sofa

I am in a Facebook Group, where we have a quilt block lottery once a month.  It's called "Swapping Sisters".  We are currently doing a "Sew Along". 

Here's how the Quilt Block Lottery works:  

At the beginning of the month, they post the quilt block we are making. You sign up to make one or two or up to four quilt blocks.  You make them and take a photo and post that you have completed your quilt block or blocks.  At the end of the month, they have a drawing. Your name is entered as many times as you make blocks (up to 4) . If you lose, you mail your quilt blocks to the winner (all in the US).  If you win, everyone mails you their quilt blocks. Over the past 3 years, I have won 4 times!!!

My original intent was to force myself to make the quilt block, as I do not normally make traditional quilts, so this way, I would learn a new quilt block every month.  I like learning new things.

In July, I won these Christmas tree Quilt Blocks.  Of course, the blue one is mine!

After I quilted it, I took a few photos on the bed.  It could be a bed quilt too.

But I like it best on my sofa!

I made a couple fun sequin fabric pillows for my grandchildren to throw on the sofa.

They LOVED it!

Christmas is over, so it's time to flip my Sofa Quilt over! It's reversible!

Getting Up Close to My Quilting AND my Family

This is my favorite photo (so far), from the wedding of my daughter, Jewels and Rad. Makes me want to lift them both up and hug them! So happy!

It was a beautiful day!  It had been so hot the day before (90 something and humid), but the weather broke and it cooled to about 82.  There was a breeze.

I am not a writer. . .  I am a quilter, so bare with my choppy words, as I share about the wedding and the table runners.  Jewels asked me to make seven quilted table runners. 

She wanted them in greens and creams with kind of a vintage look.  I was to make them all different. Even different sizes.

I made some with tea dye muslin and some with cream muslin.  One of them, I used a white on white tiny flowered fabric. Nothing was to match.  All unique!

Some I quilted with a looser meandering with leaves  and others were tighter.  I really enjoyed making them!

Jewels asked us to collect assorted vintage plates for her wedding.  Our friend, Bette took on the task. She selected a beautiful collection of dinner and cake plates.

The flower arrangements on the tables were created with wild flowers and displayed in vintage blue canning jars.  They really looked great with the plates!

And now a few wedding photos.  We don't have any professional ones yet... so these are some we all took during the ceremony and reception.

Jewels and Rad had their sisters and brothers be their attendants. Another thing that I thought was so cool.

 A photo with Grandma Joanne as the cake top is a vintage cake topper from her wedding.

Getting Up Close with Meandering with a Twist!

When I first started quilting nine years ago, I decided I wanted to add a twist to meandering.  I wanted it to be special.  Not just plain meandering.

I add leaves, groupings of leaves, and leaves with little swirls.

Meandering with leaves is one of the most popular choices of quilting.  

I also add flowers, swirls, hearts, stars, and many other little doodles to the meandering. Of course, not all in the same quilt. The fabric or the pattern of the quilt usually helps me decide what little doodle fits best.

Adding a little twist makes the meandering unique.
