Tonight I am sharing my little hot pads. I am entering these two hot pads in the Weekly Themed Contest at the Quilting Gallery this weekend. I named them "Hot Pad Blues" for the contest.
I quilted one hot pad with wavy lines and the other one with ribbon quilting with a twist.
These Hot Pads were made from the scraps from my denim beaded table topper. The table topper was made from a denim beaded shirt. It was one of my "upcylcing" quilt projects.
I embroidery stitched the fringie binding onto the edges and left the raw edges on the back side of the hot pads.
I used a heat resistant batting in both hot pads.
The voting starts Friday, Nov. 25th at the Quilting Gallery.
You can vote on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I would love if you would vote for my "Hot Pad Blues". Thanks so much!
Usually you can vote for more than one quilt in the contest. If you are entering one too, please leave a comment so I can vote for you too!
Update: you can vote for 4 quilts so let me know and I will vote for you too!
I am still working on the tutorial on how to make the zipper bags. I hope to have it ready for next Tuesday.
Still time to enter the Big Birthday Quilting Giveaway! Click on the link in the sidebar.
The Minutes for Me Linky Party starts tomorrow night at 6pm and will run for 11 days this time --- thru' the holiday weekend and all of next week.
Remember to take time for you - Minutes for Me is taking a few minutes to play! Enjoy your day!

This is my entry in the Project Quilting Off Season Challenge - Catalog It! Your inspiration was to be from an ad.
I was inspired by clothes ads. Many times we thumb thru' catalogs and order clothes. Then they come in the mail and they don't fit us correctly. They just hang in our closets. Since this has happened to just about everyone I know, I decided we could all relate!
I was inspired to create a quilt from an unusable clothing item --- a denim shirt that didn't fit me!

And Wordless Wednesday - Veggies on my Quilt
For my next "Up Cycling Quilt Project" I will be working with the blue patchwork shorts. I am planning to cut the shorts at an angle and create square blocks. I will border with old denim shirts, not new fabric. I plan to use all recycled fabric for this project.
Would love to have you share your thoughts and ideas on recycling projects or Up cycling projects... creative recycling!

Cut a strip of fabric 1 1/2 inches wide. Press in half and stitch with an embroidery stitching onto the edge of the quilt on the folded edge of the strip. See photos.
Snip with a scissors about 1/4 inch apart and about 3/8 inch deep. I am camping and we don't have a washing machine, so I took a wet washcloth and ruffed up the fringes and shook out the loose threads. When I am back home, I will wash the quilt in a washing machine and dry in the dryer --- Emptying the lint screen about every 10 minutes or so, depending on how much it frays.
It's a fun raw edge binding!
Next post the completed "Denim Shirt Project - My Vacation Project"!

You can make these scrappy pot holders by using this simple method of construction. So many of you have said you can't make "random" or "artsy" looking quilts, because it is too hard to figure out where to place the pieces.
First my suggestion is to start with at least 3 to 5 scrap pieces from any odd quilt blocks. For example if you use a leftover block from a quilt, you should rotary cut the block into two or three different size pieces. You will also need some strips of fabric the coordinate with your block colors of various sizes. I like to have light, medium, and dark fabrics. I had these four pieces of the blocks left over from making the denim shirt quilt.
I placed them on the cutting board and added fabric strips of various sizes in between the pieces and at the ends of the pieces. It is like a puzzle --- matching the pieces together. Placing the lights next to mediums and darks. Lay them out and step back and look at it. Does it look eye pleasing? Move them around or even cut a side off one and move it to the other end. Again step back and look at it.
I first sew two blocks of similar size together. Then I sewed the two center strips together. Next sew the long strip onto the two joined blocks. Then sew the 2 sides together and sew more joined strips on the ends.
I added strips to create a rectangle at least 10 inches by 20 inches, so I could split it in half to make two. My rectangle was about 23 inches long by 12 inches wide. I split it in half and trimmed all four sides, so they each measure 10" X 10"square.
My Mom was in the hospital again. I am needed here at her home. I am posting with the photos I uploaded before leaving my home. I realized the photos are not real clear on showing you each step. I think you can get the idea. I will be making more of these projects in the future. I love the random and artsy look!
When I get home (hopefully next week) I will quilt my "Vacation Project" quilt and scrappy hot pads. I will use a heat resistant batting when I quilt the Hot Pads.

Enjoy your day!
